  • What is Tuscaloosa Academy's policy on student diversity?
TA believes a racially, ethnically, and culturally diverse student body enriches the school’s college preparatory program and mission.

  • What is the average class size?
Three pre-kindergarten classes have a maximum of 18 students and a minimum of two teachers per class. In the Lower School there are two sections or classes for each grade 1st through 4th. Each has approximately 12 students. Middle and Upper School grades range in size from approximately 25 to 45. The teacher to student ratio is about one to 13.

  • Is there a waiting list?
Some classes, especially the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten, do fill quickly. The best practice to ensure a spot is to apply early.

  • Do any candidates receive priority?
Among students who qualify, children of faculty, siblings, and children of alumni will receive some priority in the admissions process.

  • Will I need to submit recommendation forms from my child's current teacher?
In order to provide an accurate perspective of the child's current performance and readiness, we require recommendation from a current teacher. If you would like to have a teacher from a previous year write a supplemental recommendation, you are more than welcome to do so.

  • What do I need to do to prepare my child for the entrance assessment tests?
No preparation is necessary. The entrance tests assessment mastery of material that your child should know at grade level. Make sure that they have had a good night's sleep and a nourishing breakfast.
